Hi, I’m Michael McConnon, Co-Owner & Head of Cinematography for Revel Studios. I wanted to write this blog to explain the differences between the art of videography and cinematography.
Videography is the art of capturing live action video, in the form of recorded media. Cinematography is the art of photography and visual story telling, in the form of a motion picture. Shooting a professional angle while working a wedding is one thing, but telling a story to convey emotion, that’s limitless, that’s cinematography.
For example, here is a clip from a beautiful wedding ceremony. One of our amazing Revel Studio’s Brides are reading her written vows. First clip is the audio and visual of the vows being read from a great angle, videography. Next clip is that same great angle mixed with the grooms emotional reaction to her words, romantic slow motion footage of the couple. Last but not least cinematic music to be the sound track to their love story.
